Gateway to the Laurelhurst Neighborhood of Portland, Oregon
LAURELHURST
If home is where the heart is, then Laurelhurst has been and always will be home to me. I grew up in this big beautiful old house on NE Couch. And just a while back I had the great fortune to list an sell this home for the folks who bought it from my family 25 years ago. Today it stands as the fourth highest selling property in Laurelhurst.

What brings me back, always back to Laurelhurst are the stately homes of many sizes on gently curving tree lined streets, the grand arches that welcome you at the entrances and the Joan of Arc statue on the round-a-bout at Coe Circle, the heart and center of the neighborhood honoring, with grace an grandeur, the Sons of Portland who gave their lives in World War I. And it's the Park. Laurelhurst Park is the place for childhood memories, adolescent fancies, adult leisure and old age musings.
The homes in Laurelhurst are an experiment in contrasts. In other neighborhoods you generally find homes of similar size and grandeur clustered together. Likewise, other neighborhoods will have areas where the larger homes transition into smaller homes and vise-versa. Laurelhurst is different.

Here you can find everything from a beautiful little 1800 square foot bungalow cottage on a standard 50 X 100 foot lot ,
to a staggeringly large 12,000 foot Mediterranean mansion on an equally staggering lot of almost an acre overlooking Laurelhurst Park. And in uniquely Laurelhurst style, you can find them right across the street from each other...just like these two. In fact this picture of the Green/Bitar and now Fournier Mansion was taken from the driveway of the little bungalow pictured above.

I have always loved history and Laurelhurst History is no exception. The history of Laurelhurst dates to the earliest settlement times. There is a good deal of information available up to about 1916. After that the record is slim at best. You can see what I have put together so far in the Laurelhurst History Page. This is an evolving history. When I find more information, I will share it with you.
"
Laurelhurst businesses" are in one sense a contradiction in terms. The original plat from 1909 contains a provision that forbids any business from operating inside the strict boundaries of Laurelhurst. This provision has been rigorously enforced over the decades. So technically speaking there are no businesses "in" Laurelhurst. But along the borders and in very close proximity to those borders a vibrant and excitingly eclectic business community has developed. In the Laurelhurst Business Links I have tried to include virtually everyone in this community from 47th to 28th and from Glisan to Stark.
As with all the information available here at www.michaelmcbarron.com my pledge is to keep it current, informative and accessible. So keep in touch and come back often.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve your Portland Oregon and Laurelhurst Real Estate needs.
Sincerely,

Michael McBarron, Broker
